Description

A truly unique holiday experience awaits at the Stable Cottage. Set in the beautiful walled garden of the Watlington estate, the Stable Cottage is a newly renovated property approached through the old stable archway. Guests can view some of Watatunga’s highly endangered deer and antelope stock from across the garden wall or explore the reserve in their exclusive electric buggies. We are passionate about conservation and can offer a unique guided wildlife safari for guests, introducing them to the reserve and all it has to offer – deer, antelope, water buffalo and endangered birds including the great bustard that had become nationally extinct in 1832.

The Stable Cottage is wonderfully private, situated about a mile from the main reserve, and comes with access to two exclusive 4-seater electric buggies to use in Watatunga Wildlife Reserve during your stay. With extensive gardens, a wood-fired hot-tub and newly resurfaced tennis court, it really is a fantastic spot for three generations to unwind and have fun!  Please note – it is a short drive or walk from the Stable Cottage to where your buggies are kept.

Offering year round comfort this cosy get-away is a spacious and relaxed home with open fire, a bright triple aspect garden room, perfect for dining with friends, four bedrooms with a ground floor bedroom suite, each with bathroom facilities and luxury four-poster in the master suite. It’s situated in the old walled garden of Watlington Estate and has a newly resurfaced tennis court overlooking the paddocks where exotic animals graze year round.

Watlington, where the Stable Cottage is located, is 7 miles south of King’s Lynn and 8 miles north of Downham Market and is also served by its railway station on the King’s Lynn to Cambridge and London line. Watlington is easily reached from London with a direct line accessible in 1hr 40mins. It is also on the national cycling route which passes through the village. At the centre of the village is the village green, there is a local Pub serving food as well as boasting a Sunday carvery, fish and chip shop and village store, perfect for those last-minute essentials.

The historic town of King’s Lynn is a short drive or train ride away; once one of the most important ports dating back to the 12th Century. Meander through the cobbled streets with fine old merchant houses or visit the elegant Custom House that overlooks the town’s medieval harbour. There are plenty of fine eateries to enjoy, perfect for a spot of lunch or supper by the riverside at The Bank House.

Travel south by car, or train, to the Cathedral city of Ely where the Cathedral dominates the skyline, one of England’s largest and most beautiful Cathedrals. The town itself offers weekly markets and boasts a beautiful waterside area with many cafés, restaurants and art galleries to explore. The stunning North Norfolk coastline is just 30 minutes drive, the vast coastline is popular with cyclists and walkers with many country lanes and tracks to follow. Visit the RSPB Nature Reserve at Snettisham beach, spectacular for bird watching with bird filled lagoons and shingle beaches to explore. Well worth a visit is the majestic Sandringham House, set in stunning grounds with pretty gardens and woodland trails to discover, the adventure playground is popular with the youngsters too.
